How I got here
- Started with
- Why is the Netherlands so good for cycling?
- Ended at
- 1973 oil crisis
The Trail
- “why is the netherlands so bike friendly” (google.com)
- Cycling in the Netherlands (en.wikipedia.org)
- Road transport in the Netherlands (en.wikipedia.org)
'stop the child murder' protests in the 70s after traffic deaths
- Woonerf (en.wikipedia.org)
- 1973 oil crisis (en.wikipedia.org)
What I came away with
In the 60s Dutch cities were tearing down neighborhoods for cars like everywhere else. Protests over children killed by cars, plus the 1973 oil crisis, flipped the politics, and they built the cycling network deliberately over decades.
