Cookie & Storage Policy
The cookies and browser storage White Rabbit uses, why, and how to control them.
Contents
1.About this policy#
This policy explains how White Rabbit Entertainment uses cookies and similar technologies on the White Rabbit website, applications, and browser extension (the "Service"). It's part of our Privacy Policy.
In short: we store what the Service needs to work and what remembers your choices, plus one random id, replaced every 13 months, that counts visits for us alone. Where ads appear, Google sets its own advertising cookies. We don't use third-party analytics, and we don't track you across sites.
2.What cookies and local storage are#
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser and receives back with each request. Local storage and IndexedDB are places a website can keep information in your browser without sending it back each time. Browser extensions have their own storage in the same way. We refer to all of these as "storage" in this policy.
3.What White Rabbit stores#
Everything below is strictly necessary for the Service to work, remembers a choice you made, or counts visits for us alone. None of it is used to track you across other websites.
- sb-…-auth-token
- TypeCookie (first-party)
- PurposeKeeps you signed in, and lets our servers confirm who's making a request.
- How longUntil you sign out, or the session expires
- white-rabbit-browse
- TypeCookie (first-party)
- PurposeRemembers that you chose to browse rabbit holes without an account, so the front page opens on Discover instead of the introduction to White Rabbit, or Log in.
- How long1 year, or until you sign in or clear it
- white-rabbit-member
- TypeCookie (first-party)
- PurposeRemembers that someone has signed in to White Rabbit in this browser, so when nobody's signed in, the front page opens on Log in instead of the introduction to White Rabbit.
- How long1 year (set again the next time you sign in), or until you delete your account or clear it
- wr-theme
- TypeLocal storage
- PurposeRemembers your appearance setting: System, Light, or Dark.
- How longUntil you change or clear it
- white-rabbit-account
- TypeLocal storage
- PurposeRemembers small preferences on this device: your last feed tab, an unfinished draft, hidden messages and advertisers, and how often you've seen each ad (so the same ad doesn't repeat too often).
- How longUntil you sign out or clear it
- white-rabbit-device
- TypeLocal storage
- PurposeYour capture settings on this device: capture on or off, whether Rabbit may look at your recent browsing (and whose answer that is), pauses, your Never analyze list and skipped categories, and which suggested rabbit holes you've reviewed or ignored.
- How longUntil you clear it
- white-rabbit-looked
- TypeLocal storage
- PurposeWhat Rabbit found the last time it looked, for whoever's signed in: which pages on this device make up each find, and Rabbit's title for it, so every White Rabbit tab shows the same finds; when it looked in the past day (at most four times), and whether it was catching up after time away, so Home can say what it found while you were away.
- How long8 days, or until Rabbit is turned off
- white-rabbit-organized
- TypeLocal storage
- PurposeRabbit's write-up of each rabbit hole it found (a title, a summary, and which pages belong), with pages named by a scrambled form of their address rather than the address itself.
- How long8 days
- white-rabbit-discover
- TypeLocal storage
- PurposeWhat you've engaged with on Discover (topics, people, and sites, and how much), so the feed suits you on this device, signed in or not.
- How longUntil you clear it
- white-rabbit-reading-v1
- TypeLocal storage
- PurposeFor each account on this device, the rabbit holes you've opened, how far you've read, and which you've saved for later or muted.
- How longUntil you clear it
- whiterabbit:navigation:v1
- TypeSession storage
- PurposeThe pages you've opened in this tab, for White Rabbit's own Back and Forward buttons.
- How longUntil you close the tab
- white-rabbit-from
- TypeSession storage
- PurposeThe username of whoever shared the link that brought you to this tab, so if you make an account, setup can offer to follow them. White Rabbit takes it off the page's address once it's read.
- How longUntil you finish setting up an account, or close the tab
- white-rabbit-email-offer
- TypeLocal storage
- PurposeWhen you last said Not now to getting tomorrow's rabbit hole by email, so it stays out of the way for a week.
- How longUntil you clear it
- white-rabbit-name-asked
- TypeLocal storage
- PurposeWhich accounts still called "New explorer" (most often ones made with an email code) said Not now when asked for a name at their first comment, follow or post, so they aren't asked again on this device.
- How longUntil you clear it
- white-rabbit-share-offered
- TypeLocal storage
- PurposeWhich of your private rabbit holes we've asked about sharing once they reached three stops, so we ask about each only once.
- How longUntil you clear it
- white-rabbit-tune
- TypeLocal storage
- PurposeThe topics you tapped in What pulls you in?, so Discover can say what it's tuned to and Reset can take them back, and whether you hid it.
- How longUntil you clear it
- white-rabbit-follow-offer
- TypeLocal storage
- PurposeWhich accounts here hid the row on Home that offers to follow the topics their reading leaned toward, so it stays hidden for them.
- How longUntil you clear it
- white-rabbit-intent
- TypeSession storage
- PurposeWhat you tapped that needed an account (a like, a save, a follow), as the rabbit hole's, person's or topic's id, so it's done once you've signed up or logged in.
- How longUntil it's done, or you close the tab
- white-rabbit-joining
- TypeSession storage
- PurposeAn invite link you chose to join before signing up or logging in, and which of the two you chose, so you join it once you're back on its page.
- How longUntil you're back on that invite link's page signed in, or close the tab
- white-rabbit:ask-after-sign-in
- TypeSession storage
- PurposeA rabbit hole or posted board you chose to ask to join, or join, before signing up or logging in, so it opens again once you're back. Nothing is sent until you press Ask or Join.
- How longUntil you're back signed in, or close the tab
- white-rabbit-setup
- TypeSession storage
- PurposeWhether you've been on the setup step that offers to add White Rabbit to this browser, and pressed Skip there, so a reload keeps your place in setup.
- How longUntil you close the tab
- white-rabbit-visitor
- TypeLocal storage
- PurposeA random id for this browser, and when it was made, so we count visits and steps like signing up once each, to see where people get stuck and what brings them back. It's sent only to us, with no browsing in it, and never used for ads. When you're signed in, the events it's sent with are linked to your account. If a White Rabbit link opens a page in your own browser from another app's browser, the id comes along, so you're counted once.
- How long13 months, then it's replaced with a new one
- white-rabbit-first-touch
- TypeLocal storage
- PurposeWhat first brought this browser to White Rabbit: the campaign tags on that link, if it had any (the site, campaign and ad they name, such as TikTok), whether it carried an ad's click marker (never the marker itself), whether it opened inside another app's browser, and the kind of page. It's sent only to us, with the day's visit and with signing up, to see which ads bring people who stay. White Rabbit takes the tags off the page's address once they're read.
- How long13 months
- white-rabbit-landed
- TypeSession storage
- PurposeThat landing on this tab's first page has been counted, so a reload isn't counted again.
- How longUntil you close the tab
- white-rabbit-sent
- TypeLocal storage
- PurposeWhich of those counts this browser has already sent (today's visit, a rabbit hole Rabbit found, a rabbit hole opened today, a rabbit hole walked through or read in today, someone followed, a relay passed on or taken deeper, a link shared or opened today), so a reload doesn't count them again. Just names and ids, with no browsing in them; a link is kept as a short scrambled stand-in, never its address.
- How longThe latest 200
- white-rabbit-ad-preview
- TypeLocal storage
- PurposeOnly if you open White Rabbit with ?ad-preview=1: shows empty boxes where ads go, for checking the layout, instead of loading any ads. ?ad-preview=0 removes it.
- How longUntil you turn it off or clear it
- white-rabbit-motion
- TypeLocal storage
- PurposeOnly if you press pause motion on the front page: keeps its animations still on your next visit.
- How longUntil you press play motion or clear it
- white-rabbit-install-card
- TypeLocal storage
- PurposeRemembers that you closed the card on Home that offers to add White Rabbit to this browser, so it stays closed.
- How longUntil you clear it
- white-rabbit-push-asked
- TypeLocal storage
- PurposeRemembers how often we've asked whether you'd like notifications on this device and when you last said Not now, so we ask at most three times and never again within two weeks, and when we last showed an iPhone how to add White Rabbit to the Home Screen.
- How longUntil you clear it
- white-rabbit-push-owner
- TypeLocal storage
- PurposeWhich account turned on notifications in this browser, so they're turned off rather than passed on to whoever signs in here next.
- How longUntil notifications are turned off here, or you clear it
- white-rabbit-push-probe
- TypeLocal storage
- PurposeWritten and removed at once, to check that this browser can keep the notifications setting.
- How longRemoved at once
- white-rabbit-seen
- TypeLocal storage
- PurposeWhich account last told us it was here from this browser, and when (at most once an hour), so we know when you were last here. That decides whether an email about what happened while you were away comes, which of those things go in the daily email, and that the daily email pauses after 30 days away, unless you tap Keep them coming in it.
- How longUntil you clear it
- white-rabbit-in-view
- TypeLocal storage
- PurposeOnly on a computer, signed in, with Rabbit on: when a White Rabbit tab in this browser was last in view, so what Rabbit finds while you're here isn't pushed to you.
- How longUntil you clear it; rewritten every minute while a White Rabbit tab is in view
- white-rabbit-attachments
- TypeIndexedDB
- PurposeKeeps copies of photos, videos, files, and voice messages you've sent or received on this device, so they open instantly.
- How longUntil you clear it

If you turn on notifications, your browser also registers our service worker, which shows them, and gets a push subscription from its own push service so we can reach it. Turning notifications off on that device removes the subscription.
In the local demo of White Rabbit (used when the Service isn't connected to our servers), the demo network, your posts, and your browsing are kept in local storage instead, under white-rabbit and white-rabbit-device, and pictures on boards in IndexedDB under wr-board-assets. They stay in your browser, except what Rabbit reads if you turn it on.
4.Google's advertising cookies#
Where ads appear in Home's feeds, Google's AdSense script sets and reads cookies, and uses similar technologies such as web beacons and local storage, on White Rabbit and on Google's own domains. Even for the non-personalized ads we ask for, Google uses them to limit how often you see the same ad, to prevent fraud and abuse, and to count views and clicks. Google's script never loads in a browser tab where the White Rabbit extension or White Rabbit Helper is connected.

- __eoi

- PurposeSecurity and fraud prevention for ads
- How longUp to 6 months
- Google's own cookies
- Set byGoogle, on its domains (such as doubleclick.net)
- PurposeShowing and measuring ads, and preventing fraud
- How longAs Google describes
| Name | Set by | Purpose | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| __gads, __gpi | Google, on White Rabbit's domain | Limiting how often you see an ad, preventing fraud, and reporting | Up to 13 months |
| __eoi | Google, on White Rabbit's domain | Security and fraud prevention for ads | Up to 6 months |
| Google's own cookies | Google, on its domains (such as doubleclick.net) | Showing and measuring ads, and preventing fraud | As Google describes |
Google lists the cookies it uses for advertising in Cookies used by Google advertising. In the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland, Google's consent message asks you before these are used; if you say no, Google shows limited ads that use no cookies. You can block or delete them in your browser's settings, and a content blocker that blocks Google's ad script keeps them off White Rabbit. See the Advertising Policy.
5.What we don't use#
- No retargeting, and no advertising cookies of our own: the only ones are Google's, described above.
- No third-party analytics or session recording, and no tracking pixels of our own, on our site or in our emails. Our email delivery service adds one to each email and counts opens and clicks without tying them to you, as the Privacy Policy explains.
- No social media plugins that track you.
- No payment scripts or cookies on White Rabbit: you pay for Plus on Stripe's own pages, and the cookies Stripe sets there are covered by Stripe's privacy policy.
- No cookies set by advertisers themselves, since ads come through Google. Site icons, link previews, and pictures from other sites are fetched through our own servers, so the sites a rabbit hole or message links to can't set cookies or learn that you viewed it.
Our own storage is only what's strictly necessary, remembers your choices, or counts visits for us alone (with an id replaced every 13 months, and counts deleted after 13 months), so we don't ask you about it. Google's advertising cookies are different: in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland, Google's consent message asks you about them first.
6.The browser extension and White Rabbit Helper#
The White Rabbit extension keeps its own storage in your browser: your capture rules, a record of the pages you visited in the past seven days, and, from version 0.6.0, how many rabbit holes Rabbit found, for its toolbar button (earlier versions kept the rabbit holes they suggested themselves, and your answers to them, instead), as described in the Privacy Policy. It sets no cookies. Uninstalling the extension deletes its storage.
On a Mac, White Rabbit Helper keeps its device token and a note of which Safari visits it has already sent, in a White Rabbit Helper folder in your Library's Application Support folder. It sets no cookies. The uninstall command removes it. See the Privacy Policy.
7.Your controls#
- Sign out to remove the session cookie.
- Clear site data in your browser's settings to remove everything White Rabbit stores in that browser. You'll be signed out and your device preferences will reset.
- Delete history in Settings → Capture & privacy clears what White Rabbit and the extension recorded about your browsing, and the count of Rabbit's finds kept with your account.
- Block cookies in your browser's settings. If you block the session cookie, you won't be able to stay signed in.
- Block Google's ad script with a content blocker, or its cookies in your browser's settings, to keep Google's advertising cookies off White Rabbit.
8.Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control#
We don't track you across websites, and we ask Google for non-personalized ads only, so Do Not Track signals don't change how the Service works. We honor Global Privacy Control signals as described in the Privacy Policy.
9.Changes to this policy#
If we change what we store, we'll update this policy and its effective date. If we ever add storage that isn't strictly necessary, we'll ask for your consent first where the law requires it.
