How I got here
- Started with
- “leap second abolished”
- Ended at
- Earth's rotation
The Trail
- “leap second abolished” (google.com)
- Leap second (en.wikipedia.org)
- Coordinated Universal Time (en.wikipedia.org)
- Earth's rotation (en.wikipedia.org)
What I came away with
Leap seconds caused real outages (2012 broke a bunch of Linux servers), and in 2022 the CGPM voted to stop adding them by 2035, letting UTC drift from Earth's rotation by more than a second.
