How I got here
- Started with
- Did Kodak really invent the digital camera and ignore it?
- Ended at
- Fujifilm
The Trail
- “kodak invented digital camera” (google.com)
- Steven Sasson (en.wikipedia.org)
toaster-sized, 0.01 megapixels, 23 seconds to save one black-and-white photo to a cassette tape
- Digital camera (en.wikipedia.org)
- Charge-coupled device (en.wikipedia.org)
- Kodak (en.wikipedia.org)
- Fujifilm (en.wikipedia.org)
the other big film company. it pivoted to medical imaging and, somehow, cosmetics
What I came away with
Kodak didn't ignore digital entirely, it held patents and made early professional digital cameras, but its money came from film, chemicals and paper, and it filed for bankruptcy in 2012. Fujifilm faced the same collapse and moved its chemistry know-how into other businesses.
