How I got here
- Started with
- Does Spotify really pay a fraction of a cent per play?
- Ended at
- “spotify 1000 streams minimum royalties 2024”
The Trail
- “how much does spotify pay per stream” (google.com)
- Spotify (en.wikipedia.org)
- Royalty payment (en.wikipedia.org)
- “pro rata vs user centric streaming payouts” (google.com)
the pool gets split by share of total streams, so your subscription mostly pays whoever everyone else listens to
- Music streaming service (en.wikipedia.org)
- “spotify 1000 streams minimum royalties 2024” (google.com)
What I came away with
There's no fixed per-stream rate. Spotify pays roughly 70% of revenue to rights holders, split by each one's share of total streams, and then labels pay artists according to their own contracts. Since 2024, a track needs at least 1,000 streams in a year to earn recording royalties at all.
