How I got here
- Started with
- What's the worst hyperinflation ever recorded?
- Ended at
- Hungarian forint
The Trail
- “worst hyperinflation in history” (google.com)
- Hyperinflation (en.wikipedia.org)
- Hungarian pengő (en.wikipedia.org)
prices doubling roughly every 15 hours at the peak in July 1946
- Hyperinflation in the Weimar Republic (en.wikipedia.org)
- Hyperinflation in Zimbabwe (en.wikipedia.org)
the 100 trillion dollar notes get sold as souvenirs now
- Hungarian forint (en.wikipedia.org)
What I came away with
Hungary, 1945–46. The pengő got so bad they issued a 100 quintillion pengő note and ran a separate 'tax pengő' just to keep accounts usable. The forint replaced it in August 1946 and is still Hungary's currency.
