The Trail
- “how much of the internet disappears over time” (google.com)
- When Online Content Disappears (pewresearch.org)
- Link rot (en.wikipedia.org)
49% of links in US Supreme Court opinions were dead per a 2013 study
- Wayback Machine (en.wikipedia.org)
- Brewster Kahle (en.wikipedia.org)
- Perma.cc (en.wikipedia.org)
What I came away with
Pew found that 38% of pages that existed in 2013 were no longer accessible in 2023, and that 23% of news articles linked to at least one dead URL. Perma.cc exists because courts and law journals were citing links that died.
