How I got here
- Started with

- Raft (algorithm)
The Trail
- “byzantine generals problem” (google.com)
- Byzantine fault (en.wikipedia.org)
- Leslie Lamport (en.wikipedia.org)
- Paxos (computer science) (en.wikipedia.org)
Lamport's original paper was written as a story about a fictional Greek parliament. reviewers didn't get it
- Raft (algorithm) (en.wikipedia.org)
What I came away with
Raft exists because Paxos was too hard for humans to understand and implement correctly. Its explicit design goal was understandability, and it mostly succeeded.
